Brighton and Hove Albion have had their fair share of fearsome competitors over the years. Here we take a look at some of them and see how they earned their reputations. Scroll through the pictures below.
1. Charlie Oatway 1999-07
Once ran 30 yards to get involved in a brawl during a preseason friendly at Longford Town. He was sent-off alongside Steve Melton and others. Ultra competitive and fierce desire to win.
2. Chris Hutchings - 1983/87
Tough midfielder who joined in strange circumstances. Was playing for Chelsea against Albion. There was lots of trouble during the game and was fined 250 by Hove magistrates for swearing at a policeman. By the time he appeared in court he was an Albion player.
3. Richard Carpenter 2000-07
Fearsome in midfield. Involved in 'The Battle of Longford' during a pre-season tour to Ireland in July 2001. Carpenter was subbed after 15 minutes for 'arguing' with his own player (Matt Wicks). The match was abandoned at halftime due to a number of mass brawls.
4. Glenn Murray 2008/11 - 2016-present
Mellowed in his old age - or rather has learnt when and how to foul. He was much angrier in his first spell with the club. Sent off two or three times in the earlier part of his Albion career.
