West Meads Club members celebrate 40 years of friendship
The decades in which the West Meads Ladies has provided a regular date on the social calendar were commemorated with a tree planted on the village green.
Founder member Brunihilde Fyfe carried out the ceremony.
She is one of several women who have stayed loyal to the club since 1968. The tree was also in memory of another founder member, Jean Houlton.

Hide AdThe club was formed when young women, just arrived on the estate, sought the company of others attracted to the newly-built housing.
The routine of fortnightly meetings in each others' homes has stood the test of time. The club's membership stands at a full 32.
Over the years, money has been raised for many local ceremonies. This was mentioned by current chairwoman Judith Houlton. She also acknowledged the help given by Arun District Council's parks and green spaces department for the planting.
The club's achievement, and Jean Houlton's memory, is mentioned as well on a plaque on a nearby bench to complement one marking the 25th anniversary in 1993.
