I hope the cathedral authorities will reconsider the proposal to close the Cloisters Café.Click here for the full story

Most English cathedrals have a café and visitors expect there to be one. I wonder how widely this matter has been discussed.

I am aware that the hospitality sector has been very adversely affected during this pandemic.

When the current lockdown restrictions ease, it is expected that there will be an increase in people having holidays within the UK – rather than going abroad. Consequently, visitor numbers will probably be higher than normal in 2021.

The closure of the café would probably result in fewer visitors to the cathedral and its shop.

The loss of one will affect the others. Conversely, the experience of visitors to the city will be enhanced if several nearby venues are all open.
