Hilda celebrates 100th birthday with four parties
Hilda Floyd, 100, of West Avenue, Worthing, was surrounded by friends for her birthday last Thursday, hosting a tea party in her flat. Another party was held later the same afternoon for those who couldn’t make it earlier. Durrington whist players organised a party for the following afternoon and on Saturday Hilda attended a family party in Ferring.
She said: “I’m a very sociable person really. I’m very active and I love my whist.”
Hilda regularly gets the bus to play the card game.

During the Second World War, Hilda worked as a telephone engineer in London. She then went on to work as a milliner.
She moved to Worthing 20 years ago with her husband Frederick Floyd. Frederick died 12 years ago aged 82.
Hilda’s grandson Jason Floyd, 38, of Mariners Quay, in Littlehampton, said: “She’s extremely independent. For a 100-year-old she’s very modern thinking.”
He added that Hilda had only recently stopped getting the bus to Eastbourne.
