A children’s play area in Hastings has been given a big makeover thanks to housing association AmicusHorizon.

The play space in Priory Road had previously looked dated and unimaginative, and had become a target for vandalism.

But now it is has been given an overhaul following a consultation with local residents and children.

The new area, funded by AmicusHorizon, features a Galleon-themed play ship and other fantastic play equipment.

Mike Bushell, neighbourhood manager at AmicusHorizon, said: “We wanted to give children and residents ownership of their play area. The old play area was dull and largely unused and so we worked closely with the community to deliver a modern play space. It’s great to see how happy residents are with the transformation, and to see a play area that’s in keeping with Hastings’ heritage as a fishing town.”

The refurbishment took eight weeks to complete after the local community led the design process and told AmicusHorizon what they wanted.

Resident Jamie Champion said: “I think the new play area is absolutely fantastic. It has brought the community together. More people now go out there and socialise while their children play.”
