A BIRDMAN competitor could be left financially ‘ruined’ after a judge ruled he must pay thousands of pounds in legal costs following a lengthy battle with the competition’s organisers.

Steve Elkins, 51, of Hope, in Derbyshire, was ‘surprised’ and ‘shocked’ when Judge Jonathan Simpkiss told him he must make an interim payment of £20,000 to the Worthing Town Centre Initiative (TCI) within the next 28 days, at a court hearing in Brighton County Court, on Tuesday.
