Ashton House Nursing Home held its annual summer BBQ party last week.

The theme on Friday, August 25, was 1950s rock and roll, and staff and residents at the Haywards Heath home enjoyed BBQ food with pizza and ice cream.

The home provides nursing care and nursing dementia care to elderly people and has 100 residents. Find out more at www.ashtonhousehaywardsheath.co.uk.

Home manager Bincy Mathew said: “We were honoured by the presence of MP of Mid Sussex Mims Davies and deputy mayor cllr Duncan Pascoe (Haywards Heath) who had given away the awards to the Best Carers and many more appreciating the staff for the hard work and their dedication. The residents and family enjoyed along with staff at Ashton. We were just lucky with the weather too.”

The deputy mayor said: “The staff at Ashton House put on a thoroughly enjoyable event with a live band, BBQ, pizza and ice cream for all the residents and their families.

“The management team also use this day as an opportunity to celebrate the hard work of their staff with an awards event. Their nurses, carers and support staff were recognised for their commitment and services to the residents, with the ‘Best Carer’ award being voted on by its residents and their families. This was a great way to spotlight the challenges of care work and the important contribution from those that work in the care industry.

“I was delighted to be asked to hand out the awards alongside MP Mims Davies.”

Councillor Pascoe added: “Ashton House’s manger, Bincy Mathew R.N. was kind enough to give me a tour of the house and to introduce me to some of its lovely residents. We all had such a lovely and fun afternoon and I do hope to be invited again next year.”

Ashton House was the first care home in West Sussex to introduce the Namaste care program, which is specifically designed for residents with advanced dementia and aims to create a supportive and engaging environment.

Ashton House hosts its BBQ Summer Party in their gardens every year to allow friends and families to get together with residents and staff.
